field notes 2

17 July 2002 I am beginning to get a better feel for the class. I think everyone is becoming more comfortable and starting to let go and be themselves. I still have not connected with anyone and still feel that my changes in the last year are going to create a more interesting subject for my research. I have to change my old class notes for Beth this weekend. I am starting to get a feel for how I am going to approach this social action theme and to be honest it is not going to come out as the liberal social engineers that created this nationally expect. I am too set in my ways, cantankerous, and classically tolerant to submit to this process as a good socialist would. sigh even the Centre for Social action has a proper ‘worldly’ name. I am curious to see how others handle this assignment. I think that with the piece I am currently working on that some people in the group will be surprised at the approach I am taking.

Feild notes 1

16 July 2002 I have been watching the class and I am not sure on how this project is different than last years. Since I have only done project once so getting a feel for how fast things emerge and join together. Overall it is good to be back in project and to get the juices flowing. I do wish however that there were more of the old crowd here. I look around the room and wonder what kinds of special connections that will develop in the group I have not felt anything yet (although I do find one person annoying but that comes form previous experience). I miss all the characters from last year. But the past is just that, the past. I find it interesting that most of the people in class are English teachers. We have 2 tech people, a Latin teacher and a speech pathologist (who is really an uber-geek). I find that the hesitancy of the writing in class has started to disappear. I can’t wait to see what develops.
